Lemonade diet!

I have struggled with my weight since childhood. Up, down, rotund, and quasi-thin - I have yoyoed with the best of them. It is not a game that I enjoy but unfortunately, I have played it on numerous occasions. Today, hopefully I will start back on the road to healthy and (dare I say it?) thin.

The lemonade diet is my initial go to health and diet aid. It is my aim that through sustained effort, I will have cleansed my system and lost a few pounds (ahem more than a few pounds hopefully) by default. If all goes well, I hope to lose 15 pds at the end of my 5 day cleanse. Is this preposterous? Do I have my head in the clouds when I consider this number as a possible goal - I can always wish!

Unfortunately, I do not seem to have all the ingredients to begin on my master cleanse journey... I wonder: can I substitute honey for the maple syrup? I have the lemons and the cayenne pepper but no maple syrup. Does this warrant a trip to the grocery store. I will have to send someone since my RA is flaring at the present. Oh duck!

Lightbulb

The wind howled relentlessly and I anxiously huddled in my living room watching the lights flicker in and out. It is such an odd feeling to watch and wait for something as mundane as a lightbulbs demise but watch and wait I did.

Now, I dont usually watch light bulbs on stormy nights. Lightbulbs die all over the world every day but this lightbulb held the meaning of what my life would look like for the next week. Heck, my fate possibly rested on whether or not this light bulb would fizzle and die. And so I watched.

My eyes closed and I awoke scared out of my mind that the world had crumbled around me. My anxiety was quickly doused upon realizing that the lightbulb shone bright and steady. We were safe. Hurricane Sandy did not claim us as it had claimed so many others. My lightbulb stood as testament to the strength of our haven.

Costumes!

Costume buying is such an exciting time of year! It is your opportunity to reflect your cheesy or dramatic personality without fear of repercussion by your peers. Or perhaps costume buying is the complete opposite for you in that it is a time for you to step outside of your normally sedate life to portray something sexy, chivalrous, or silly. Halloween costume time! Oh my!

Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! I love this time of year! Full of fun and fear and more fun... It's spooktastic! My daughter loves it as well. She asks every day if she can put on her bat girl costume which is just plain adorable on her! My only complaint - how very thin the costume is! I am wracking my brain over how I can bulk up her costume without taking away from its cuteness factor! I don't want to cover it with a coat but I don't want her to freeze either! Hrmh...

Mom on a mission!: Proud Mama Syndrome vs RA

My daughter is a genius! Well, very close to genius status. She is 33 months old, nearly three yes, but has been performing well above her age level since she was a 7 month old. Today, she can speak in full sentences and utilizes an extensive vocabulary to get her poin across. She is a jokster - and has a number of jokes in her backpack. And in terms of general knowledge she can count forward and backwards to 20 without aid. She can identify her colors, numbers, shapes, and her name as well. She knows how to say her ABCs and can sing a number of nursery rhymes independently. She knows when her birthday is and can tell you where she lives. This is just the tip of the iceberg people. Proud Mama Syndrome!

It has been a few days since I lasted posted but life and my RA both affected my ability to be productive in the blogging world.

I am back. For how long, I do not know. But I will take advantage of the time that I have been given. RA tends to make those simple tasks, difficult and those difficult tasks, impossible. With this said... I am glad to be able to write today.

On a positive note - my 33 month old daughter is a genius. Lol. I say this because she is! Well, close to it anyway! Conversational with 6 to 8 word sentences. Huge vocabulary. Ability to correlate and comprehend. Can create her own stories. Identifies colors, numbers, and shapes, and her name... She is counting forward and backwards from 20, knows her ABCs, knows when her birthday is, where she lives, and is able to reciprocate such questioning. Ok... I digress. Proud Mama syndrome!

Dog dilemma

So, my two year old wants a dog. This want has arisen out of a need to have what the next door neighbor has and not out of a lack of canine companionship. She has seen our neighbor cuddle and play dress up with her puppy, put her puppy in her purse, and call her puppy "princess" - and it is for this reason that she has declared war on our household. She refuses to be the jovial and endearing child we know her to be and instead has allowed here temper to take hold until we get her a princess of her own. 

Haha! She will be a force to reckon with!

In the meantime - looking for a child safe puppy. Will not get her one now but it never hurts to be prepared.

RA sucks

RA is such a weird creature. It is not fully understood but is capable of wreaking havoc upon the human form. As an auto-immune condition it is the perfect weapon in that it turns the body against itself. From twisting and bending bones until they are permanently knarled like that of an exposed tree root to taking the organs on a roller coasters ride of abuse and destruction - RA can and does destroy the body from the inside out in an effort to rid the body of what it perceives to be the enemy - itself.

It is a shame that the condition is often overlooked and is relatively unknown. The average person has  never heard of RA. And because they have never heard of RA, they assume that the condition cannot be that bad. That is, if society and the media has not graced the "common mind" with detailed information of RA then it must not exist or could not possibly affect a person as deeply and wholly as it does - right? But what then do you say to the wheel chair bound former runner or the mom of two who can't bathe herself or hug her children?

I digress - I just had to say my piece. I guess I am just tired of the uninformed telling me I just have to get up and move around or that the pain cannot be that bad.

When is too early to send your child to school?

I am of the thinking that the earlier I nurture my daughters intellectual capabilities - the better. She is  mature, informed, and astute. She is of a mostly pleasant demeanor, amazingly verbose, and generally giving - although she is prone to fits of temper. But she is also used to being with me all the time. I have been considering pre-school for my soon to be three year old so as to socialize her with like minded peers. I have also wanted to ensure her intellectual development by enveloping her within an educational environment. 

I have been told that I shouldn't rush her schooling. That imposing too much onto her too early would be detrimental? How true is this? It seems impossible to hurt her by filling her noggin with reading, numbers, and peer interaction. Could I be wrong?

Autumn

Grinning is easy

I am uncomfortable. Any which way that I sit, any which way that I turn is painful. Sleeping provides little respite. The pain likes to burrow into the deep recesses of the mind and take away even the little solace that is often sought within sleeps black embrace. Wake up! Wake up!! Wake up!!! 

My body screams because there is no immediate solution. Simply being, hurts. Unfortunately, I just have to grin and bear it.

So, my two year old daughter comes up to me and innocently asks, "Mommy, why are you under there?" I look around my surroundings and except for being directly under the ceiling of our home, I was not "under" anything. So, I do as any mother would and ask my daughter, "Sweetie, under where?" My little one giggles and says, "Mommy, you said underwear!"

How detrimental is tv to a toddler?

So I am watching my two year old daughter as she watches her favorite television programs and I can't help but wonder if the true detrimental factor is television. She watches more than the recommended hour a day and it does not appear to have hindered her in any way. She is well spoken, knows her ABCs, knows how to count forward and backward to and from twenty, can skip count to 100 (with help), can identify her name, knows her birthday, where she lives, what city she lives in and the list goes on. All this and she is an avid television watcher.

I think the true culprit is parental involvement - or lack thereof. Parental involvement is essential to every child - especially a tv watcher whose mind is being molded by the thoughts, images, and words of those on the tube. I make it my mission to be there for my children daily - hour after hour. I teach them, play with them, read to them and talk to them more than the television provides an entertainment outlet. My involvement, I feel, counteracts most of the negative effects that television may have on my children.

Now I am sure there is much research suggesting that what I am implying is wrong and harmful. I am sure that the quality of the programming has great bearings on the various studies as well. Sponge bob versus Little Einsteins, for instance, may have a greater impact on a child's attention span than the latter. I am not attempting to imply that this research is wrong by any stretch of the word... Rather, I felt it would be best to elaborate upon the studies by stating that other environmental and societal factors may have an even greater impact on a child's development.

Write!

It is hard to write - I mean truly write - when life gets in the way. Babies and RA take a majority of my time. Reading other people's works of art (ie books) and trying to run my business (www.avry.joinambit.com) takes another bit. So when do I write - in the wee hours of the morning when sleep becons and crust is beginning to form in the corner of my eyes? Is this when all experienced writers vent their frustrations, create nail biting adventures and steamy love affairs? If so - I am not meant to write.

Ohhhh but the lure of the written word calls so extensively within me. It reaches out to me and with a graceful finger ever so gently tugs upon my heart strings until a soft melody begins to play. How I would love to spend the hours toiling away in front of a computer, coffee cup at the ready and my editor available on speed dial.

I won't lose hope. I won't accept that my dream can just fizzle and pop. I will prevail. I will sustain. I will write.

Mom needs a diet

Medicine is not working. Medicine is supposed to work. Medicine failed me. So I need to find an alternative. I need to try a diet. But what diet will take away my pain and make me whole. Unless I remove everything but nuts and berries I may trigger the animal that is RA? So what are my options?

Oh Facebook!

I eat, sleep, and drink babies but I yearn for moments that I can have alone with Facebook. Facebook provides that outlet, that much needed 'Yes! There are people out there!' feedback that I crave! It is a grand love affair, I am sure. But it is a love affair that must stop. Well, must stop to the extent that I currently attend. There are grander and more pressing matters to attend to - like this blog!?

Happiness and joy - two sentiments one would normally associate with giving birth - were intermingled with sadness and trepidation. Fear wove its way into the fabric silently and heavily. I was torn asunder by the information. I felt defeated.

The alarms ring daily at 7:30am when He begins to cry! She begins to stir and her head pops up shortly thereafter! Looking around bleary eyed she stretches and immediately begins to scream! Her screams are like those of a banshee - full of woe and threatening an expulsion of the contents remaining within her stomach. There is no sleeping through this chaos! They have won! And I eagerly give in to their needs! 

-- Despite my morning defeat! I have not lost! Rather, I am victorious! For I am mother! Mother I am!
